The Cassava Story

Haha.. ini juga postingan yang harusnya masuk ke bulan Februari tapi karena sibuk jadi ketinggalan deh. Harusnya bulan ini postingan saya sudah berganti tema, bukan resep lagi tapi berhubung ini blog saya, ya.. suka-suka saya aja deh mau ngepost yang mana.. hehe..

Haha.. this is another post that should be posted in February but since I was busy I couldn't find time to post it. The theme for this month should already be changed, it is not recipe anymore but since it's my blog, well.. it is up to me to decide what to post.. haha..

Tapi dia tetap masuk dalam label Recipe bersama teman-temannya yang postingannya masuk di bulan Februari.

Singkong Goreng

Fried Cassava

Libur pemilihan gubernur hari Rabu, 15 Februari itu enaknya diisi dengan apa ya? Bersih-bersih, leyeh-leyeh dan masak.

Governor election day on that Wednesday 15 February was a day off so let's do something fun. Cleaning, relaxing and cooking.

Paginya saya dan papa bikin pisang goreng keju-susu coklat. Siangnya kami bersiap-siap bikin cemilan lain. 

Dad and I made fried banana with cheese and chocolate milk in the morning. In the afternoon we were ready to make another snack.

Peel & wash the cassava

Boil it, add salt. Some said chopped garlic makes it taste better but it's optional.
After it's soft, dry it & then fry it. You'll have crispy fried cassava in the outside but soft inside.

Combro

Grated Cassava With Oncom Filling

Bingung juga nyari sebutan Combro dalam bahasa Inggris. Yah, nyebutnya gitu aja deh 'singkong parut isi oncom'.


It gave me quite a dizzy to find what does Combro called in English. Well, I just call it 'grated cassava with oncom filling'.

Took turn with dad grating this cassava.
Challange#1: man, cassava basically is same with wood
so it gives you the picture how it feels grating it

Oncom itu apa sih?

What is Oncom?

Oncom dibuat dari ampas tahu yang difermentasikan.

Before you cook it, the thin fermented part (the orange layer) must be shelled
Oncom is made from soybean residue and then it is fermented.

Oncom bisa dibeli di pasar tradisional sampai di supermarket di Indonesia. Apa Oncom di jual di negeri lain? Wah, saya belum googling tuh. Tapi kalau tidak ada di negerimu, yah, apa boleh buat, cemilan ini tidak bisa dibuat..

Oncom can be bought in traditional market up to supermarket in Indonesia. Does Oncom sold in other countries? Geez, I haven't done any googling to dig on that information. Well, if it can be found in your country, you can't make this snack..

Oiya, Oncom harus dimasak dulu kalau mau dipakai untuk isian Combro. Sayangnya papa sudah masak Oncomnya so saya tidak punya foto-foto waktu lagi masak Oncom itu.




Oh by the way, Oncom must be cooked before it is made as Combro filling. The thing is dad has cooked it so I don't have any photos when it is being cooked.

Challange#2: my hand is small & cassava dough is wet and mushy,
it feels it would fall off my hand at anytime

Challange#3 it is difficult to wrap the cooked oncom with cassava dough
because it was mushy.

Ah, I've made it

ok, so they didn't come in same size.. lol.. hey, I'm a beginner in this thing.. lol,..

into the hot tub, babies.. oh no, I accidentally cracked one of them & made it broke into half pieces..

Voila..

It rained heavily in the afternoon but papa & I were warm, healthy, happy & had freshly fried Combro ;)

Ah, enaknya menikmati masakan hasil karya sendiri sementara di luar hujan turun dengan derasnya.

Ah, it felt so good to eat my self-made snack while it rained heavily outside.

Tapi malamnya.. aduh, tangan kok pegel banget ya.. "Pa, pijitin tangan Keke dong"

But in the evening.. oh man, my arm was so stiff.. "Pop, could you massage my arm"

Papa ngakak "Korban marut singkong"

My dad laughed "Cassualty of grating cassava"

Hahaha..

  1. aku belum pernah makan oncom...di Jawa Timur kayanya ga ada oncom deh...apa aku yang enggak tau ya, hihihi
